Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)

After 2/3 years of graduation, the students will have the ability to:

  1. Analyze, design and solve problems related to Computer Science and Engineering and adapt to changes in technology by self learning.

Program Outcomes (POs)

Engineering Graduates will be able to:

  1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

Graduates of BE program in CSE will be able to:

  1. Analyze, design, develop and optimize solutions in C, C++, Java and .Net platforms.
  2. Apply concepts in core areas of Computer Science –Data Structures, Database Management Systems, Operating Systems, Computer Architecture and Software Engineering to solve technical issues.

About the Course

Computer is now an essential part of our life and needs. Computers can be seen in our day to day lives and has a fast impact on or lifestyles and jobs. Some of the applications of Computer Science are mobile phones, digital video cameras and audio players, microwave ovens, aircraft, security alarm systems, laser equipment and automobiles.
Computer Science & Engineering is one of the most sought after disciplines of engineering courses and is the practical and scientific approach to its application. Computer Science & Engineering involves the design and understanding of computational process and programming languages.
In Computer Science & Engineering course, the student will go through the algorithms, programming languages, operating systems, database management systems, computer network, computer graphics and artificial intelligence.

About the department


Department of  Computer Science & Engineering at BNMIT is renowned for imparting state of the art education and also carrying out cutting edge research. The department was started in 2001, with an intake of 120. Currently it is being headed by, Dr. Sahana D Gowda.

The main objective of the Department is to provide academic excellence, knowledge and nurture talent in the area of Computer Science & Engineering.  In addition to a strong UG program, the Department also offers 2 PG programs and has provided R&D facilities. Department has a research center affiliated to VTU Belagavi. Research activities in areas of Image processing, Data mining, Pattern Recognition, Wireless Sensor Network, Biomedical Engineering are being carried out by research scholars in collaboration with industries. Well equipped research lab has been facilitated by funds from agencies like VTU-VGST, AICTE and DST-IISc.
It has attracted some of the brightest students and faculties into its portal. Faculties are actively involved in the Campus Connect Program of Infosys. They are reviewers of reputed National and International Journals and have chaired National and International conferences. The Department also regularly organizes guest & invited lectures students, faculty development programs and conferences and workshops for the staff.

About Head of the Department

Dr. Sahana D Gowda is currently Head of the department of computer Science, BNMIT. She has obtained her bachelors from Adichunchangiri Institute of Technology, Chikmagalur, Kuvempu University, masters from University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering, Bangalore university and Ph. D from Department of Studies in Computer Science, University of Mysore She has rich 17 years experience in Teaching and Research. To her credit, she has 26 publications in reputed International journals and conferences. Her area of expertise includes Image Processing, Pattern Recognition, Data mining. Presently, she is guiding three Ph.D students.

Regular Lectures & Technical Seminars are arranged under the aegis of Association of Computer Science& Information Science (ACSIS) forum. The department has shown keen interest in executing many of the academic and extra-curricular activities for the students through the association, ACSIS. The department has received a very good response from the students in all the activities conducted.

CSI-BNMIT Student Chapter

The college also has a CSI Students Branch which regularly organizes various student centric activities in the core area of Computer Science and Engineering with the support of CSI Bangalore Chapter. In this direction some of the lectures conducted are listed below:
