Program Educational Objectives (PEO)

After 2/3 years of graduation, the students will have the ability to:

  1. Analyze, design and implement solutions in Electronics and Communication Engineering and adapt to changes in technology by self /continuous learning.
  2. Engage in higher learning and contribute to technological innovations.
  3. Work with professional ethics as an individual or as a team player to realize the goals of the project or the organization.

Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs)

ECE graduates will be able to:

1.       Analyze and design analog & digital circuits or systems for a given specification and function.

2.      Implement functional blocks of hardware-software co-designs for signal processing and communication applications.

Engineering Graduates will be able to:

  1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  6. The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
  7. Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

About the Department


The department of Electronics and Communication Engineering was established in the year 2001, with a present intake of 120 and staff student ratio 1:16. It has well experienced and dedicated faculty with qualifications obtained from premier research institute like the Indian Institute of Science. Many of them also possess rich industrial experiences from organizations like ITI, Mindtree, Infosys etc., and the average experience is 14 years. The faculties are putting integrated efforts to groom students in a good academic and research ambiance. Measures are also taken to develop students with abilities for life-long learning.

The conducive environment has enabled most of its students pass in distinctions with cent percent pass percentage. The placements have been excellent with several reputed companies like National Instruments, Mentor Graphics, TCS, Accenture etc, visiting us for campus recruitments. The outstanding performances have enabled a large number of students acquire admissions to M.S degree programs in reputed international universities as well.

 About the Head of the Department:


Dr. P A Vijaya obtained BE degree from MCE Hassan, ME &Ph.D from IISc Bengaluru.She has 32 years of teaching experience with 109 publications in reputed International Journals & Conferences. Three research scholars have obtained Ph.D degree from VTU under her guidance.She is currently guiding 6 research scholars in the area of Pattern Recognition, Image Processing & Real Time Embedded Systems. She is a member of IEEE,ISTE & IACSIT. She has worked as BOE chairman, BOS & LIC member in VTU. She joined as Professor in the Department of ECE, BNMIT on 1.2.2013 and is heading the department from 23.1.2016. She has given more than 20 technical talks in conferences workshops and FDPs and has chaired the technical sessions in more than 20 international conferences.

Research Activities:

The department has an R & D center recognized by VTU. It is empowered by 3 research guides  with rich industrial and academic experience. .

The thrust areas majority include Conductive Polymers, MEMS, VLSI Optical Fiber Communication, Image processing, Pattern recognition, Real Time applications, Wireless Sensor Networks & Advanced Instrumentation. Several years of research has resulted in a large number of publications in National & International Journals & Conferences.

Professional Bodies

BNMIT Electronics and Telecommunication Association (BETA)

BETA – The “BNMIT Electronics and Telecommunication Association” has been established with a mission to impart additional knowledge to the students of the Dept of ECE and TCE. It was formulated on the 10th October 2005, nominating all the students of ECE/TCE as members. Sri M.Chandrasekharan, Founder Chairman of impulse software Pvt. Ltd., was the chief guest for the launch program.
The association has been arranging guest lectures, workshops, quizzes, hobby project competitions etc, on a regular basis. And to be more effective, eminent academicians, researchers and industrialists are invited to address the budding engineers. Working in this direction, the main objectives of BETA have been to
• Introduce current industrial trends
• Raise competency spirit
• Impart technical know-how
• Teach team dynamics and
• Prepare students for life-long learning.

ISTE Students’ Chapter
Indian society for Technical Education (ISTE), New Delhi is a professional organization of engineering educators and educational administers. Being the only national organization of educators in the field of engineering and technology, ISTE effectively contributes in various missions of the union government. The Ministry of Human Resource Development, AICTE/DST/MIT/State governments are well associated with the ISTE for program related to technical education.
The major objective of the ISTE is to assist and contribute to the production and development of top quality professionals needed by the industries and other organizations. ISTE is involved in coordinating various quality improvement programs and organizing summer/winter school programs for engineering colleges and polytechnic teachers.
BNM Institute of Technology is an institutional member and has its ISTE students’ chapter since 2005. The ISTE student chapter was inaugurated by Prof. Raghuvir Singh, Program Director and Executive Secretary, ISTE on 30th November 2005.

IEEE-BNMIT Students’ Chapter
With the initiative taken by Dr.Veena S.Chakravarthy, Professor, ECE as the Branch Counselor, the IEEE-BNMIT student’s chapter was formally inaugurated on 30th October 2013 by Dr.Anantharamaiah Prabhakar, Managing Director, Enterprise Flow Technosoft Services Pvt. Ltd, Bangalore.
