The students of Mechanical Engineering Department shall have ability to:

Mechanical Engineering Program prepares graduates:

  • To model, analyze, design and realize physical systems, components or process by applying principles of thermal engineering, machine design, Mechatronics and Control Engineering

Engineering Graduates will be able to:

  1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

About the course:

Mechanical engineering is one of the oldest and broadest engineering disciplines. The application base of mechanical engineering field of study is extremely broad and diverse and the scope of mechanical engineering is continuously expanding beyond its traditional boundaries. Mechanical engineering is a discipline of engineering that applies the principles of physics, materials science and mathematics to the design, development, research, evaluation, manufacture, installation, testing, operation, maintenance and management of mechanical systems. Mechanical engineers use these core principles along with tools like computer-aided engineering and product lifecycle management to design, analyze and develop manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, heating and cooling systems, transport systems, aircraft, watercraft, robotics, medical devices, and others. Mechanical engineers are employed in automotive, aerospace, chemical, computer, electronic, industrial machinery, manufacturing, mining, oceanographic, petroleum, pharmaceutical, power, printing, publishing, and textile industries. Mechanical engineers use engineering principles to provide efficient solutions for the development of processes and products, ranging from small component designs to extremely large plants, machinery or vehicles. Mechanical engineers are focusing their attention towards new areas of research such as nanotechnology, development of composite materials, biomedical applications, environmental conservation, etc. To summarize, the field of mechanical engineering offers a wide bouquet of job options to students who are looking for a stable and stimulating career.

About the Department:

The Mechanical Engineering branch was started in the academic year 2011-2012. All the laboratories have been established procuring state of the art equipments.  The department has a team of talented and well qualified staff members, with a blend of industrial and academic experience. Faculty members with Masters and Doctorate degree qualification having specialization in Machine Design, Thermal engineering, Product Design and Maintenance Engineering are rendering their service to academics.

Facilities Provided in the Department:

The department is committed to provide the students with technical expertise in theoretical, computational and practical methods to the analysis and solution of mechanical engineering problems. Towards achieving this goal, the department is fully equipped with the required facilities for effective delivery of lectures, state of the art computational and laboratory facilities. A committed team of highly qualified teaching and well trained supporting staff are involved in the delivery of theory and laboratory classes.

Apart from class room teaching students are encouraged to carry out simple projects to get hands on training on what they learn in theory subjects. Industrial visits and guest lectures by experts from industries are arranged on regular basis to enhance learning and expose the students to latest happenings in the field of mechanical engineering.

About Head of the Department:

ME_HOD

The department is headed by Dr Mukesh Patil. He has a teaching experience of 15 years in the field of Mechanical engineering. He obtained his B.E. degree from Mysore University. He is a Gold medalist in M.Tech from VTU, Belgaum. He obtained his Ph.D. from VTU, Belgaum in Thermal Engineering. He is actively involved in research activities in the field of thermal engineering. He has published 04 research papers in international journals and has presented papers in 02 international conferences. His areas of interest include thermodynamics, heat transfer, porous materials, fluidics and energy engineering.

IEI BNMIT Student Chapter

The college also has a IEI Students Chapter which regularly organizes various student centric activities in the core area of Mechanical Engineering with the support of IEI Bangalore Chapter.

About the Faculty Members:

The department has a committed team of highly qualified teaching staff. The team of faculty comprises of talented staff members with a blend of industry and academic experience. Faculty members with minimum masters degree qualification having specialization in Machine Design, Thermal engineering, Product Design and Maintenance Engineering are at service.  The faculty members are actively involved in delivering theory classes and conducting practical classes ensuring effective transfer of knowledge in order to equip the students with theoretical, computational and practical methods of analysis and solution of mechanical engineering problems.

Achievements of Students:

Academic: The students of the department of mechanical engineering have excelled consistently in their academic performance.  The students have passed out with Excellent results of over 99% in CAED & Elements of Mechanical Engineering subjects and more than 25% students of the college have scored hundred percent in Computer Aided Engineering Drawing Laboratory every year. The students of higher semester of mechanical engineering have passed out with excellent results with maximum number of First Class with Distinction.

  • Rahul Raj. has secured 10th rank in VTU examinations 2015.

Non-academic: The students of the department of mechanical engineering are actively involved in all the extra-curricular and co-curricular activities of the institution. Many of the students of the department are team members of various sports teams and teams of extra-curricular activities.

SHREDDETRON 6000

FICCI has conducted YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR competition at MSRIT this project has showcased and ranked 2nd in the competition

One common sight in our cities is leaves being shed continuously and around the year. These leaves once collected by the civic authorities are either burnt or sent to dumping grounds where they either become a part of a land fill and pollute the environment or just discarded. Another problem is that once these leaves are burnt they cause pollution and lead to the emission of harmful carcinogenic fumes which are harmful to everyone and can lead to cancer, asthma and other respiratory problems.

Shreddertron 6000 consists of 3 main parts which are the housing, the motor and cutting system. Coming to the motor, we use a 600w single phase motor rated at a speed of 16,000 rpm. The motor has a speed controller that can vary the speed of the motor depending on the type of application and the load of leaves being fed into the system

Department Association: An association of the mechanical engineering department is being established to provide a platform for the students for all their curricular and co-curricular activities
