PPT About the Department

Department News letters:

Innovative Teaching Methodologies:

Innovative teaching is necessary for the present and future of education to help students to reach their full potential. It involves using methods and teaching learning materials for the benefit of students. A variety of methods and tools are used to ensure that each student is fully engaged in learning and is interactive in classrooms.

The innovative teaching methods followed in our department are –

  • Think-pair-share
  • Quiz
  • Flipped Classroom
  • Group Discussion
  • Peer-Instruction

Think-Pair-Share Activity(TPS)

In a short TPS assignment, students are required to

  • Think individually about the initial part of the calculation
  • Pair with neighbor and refine the solution
  • Share on the blackboard the various ways of arriving at initial solution.

Peer instructions Activity

  • Stimulates discussion among students – The question/activity may elicit multiple conceptions leading to a healthy discussion.
  • Plausibility of Choices – All the choices given in PI are plausible and target the misconceptions of students.
  • Students are instructed to see all 4 choices, and show the answer (choice) written on a sheet and display to instructor, a polling is conducted and moderated discussion is encouraged.

Flipped class room

Flipped classroom is one way to ensure that class time is spent in assimilation, rather than in information transmission.

  • Instructor shares videos on topic with students before the class.
  • Students are instructed to watch before coming to class.
  • Class time will be spent in related activities and discussions on the topic .
