Innovative Initiations-Department of EEE

Innovative teaching is a proactive approach to integrate new teaching strategies and methods into a classroom. It can also be regarded as the process to change teaching or learning activities that produce improvements in the learning outcomes. The teaching methodology needs to be more student-centric. A primary motive of innovative teaching is to encourage students to engage actively in the learning process. When students interact with teachers and peers, they gain experience that is more practical and retain more information from a class.

The innovative teaching methods followed in EEE department are

  1. Skill Development Program

Skills development is the process of identifying the skill gaps in students from the perspective of the current Industry standards and helping students develop and hone these skills. Skills and knowledge development are the driving forces behind the growth and development of any student. Skill building is a powerful tool to empower students and improve their social acceptance. Skill development programs raise confidence, improves the competency of students through focused outcome-based learning.

Skill-based learning focuses on increasing employability of students through a series of inputs to:

  • Equip students with appropriate hands-on skills which help them to be a job- ready.
  • The core focus on technical skills leading to specialization, thereby increasing the efficacy of the student.

Each department identifies the core competencies, current areas in which the student can develop their skills. Students of any department can opt for any of the verticals identified by any of the department. The details of the skill development program conducted by EEE department for students are as follows:-

2.Adjunct Faculty/ Guest Faculty/ Industry-Interaction Details

The Industry experts or Professors from other reputed colleges are invited to conduct courses to keep students abreast with technology and to make them industry ready thereby improving the employability of our graduates.    3. The innovative teaching Activities in the class Room

The innovative teaching methods followed  in our department are

  • Crossword puzzle/Unscramble the words
  • Teaching by using  models
  • Brainstorming

Some of the activities are described below.

a. Title of Innovative method/Activity: 3D- Presentation

Year: 2017-18

Faculty/Inventor: Venkatesha.K              Designation: Associate Professor

Course Name: Electromagnetic Field Theory                             Semester: IV Sem

Goals/Objective of method

  • To understand the concept of vector algebra, Co-ordinate system, etc.

Description of the method:

  • The concept of vector algebra is important in order to understand Electromagnetic Field theory. Addition of vectors, multiplication, and division of vector are required to understand fields. The three co-ordinate systems will help students to analyze different densities such as linear, surface and volume-charge densities that could be related to charged cable, metal plates and cluster of charges.

Benefits of method:

  • The student will realize the 3D effect of co-ordinate systems, Gauss Law and its simplicity to calculate fields of various physical specimens which are electrically charged. This analysis results in the calculation of the capacitance effect of various specimens.

 b.Title of Innovative method/Activity: Quiz

Faculty/Inventor: Priyashree S                                             Designation: Associate Professor

Goals/Objective of method:

The students are required to provide an answer in one word from the syllabus pertaining to the Internals, including definitions and properties.

Description of the method:

This concept gives an insight for the students about the basic definitions, terminologies, and properties of DFT and FFT. The students are required to recollect and write these terms, definitions or properties in order to complete the solution for the given question.    The Quiz was evaluated based on the maximum marks scored by each student with a mapping of 1mark for each question.

Benefits of method:

Since the course on Digital Signal processing is a mathematical subject, it requires the students to memorize several equations and properties. The quiz has been framed such that the students will get familiarity about the significant definitions, theorems, and properties. This quiz will provide awareness about the concepts being taught during the regular classes &facilitates as a revision for the internal assessments being conducted periodically during the semester.

c. Title of Innovative method/Activity:  Puzzle on Energy Conservation        

                                                                                                                     Year: 2015-16

 Faculty/Inventor: A.Kumar                                                 Designation: Associate Professor

Goals/Objective of method:

To create an awareness of energy conservation through a puzzle.

Description of the method:

A jumbled word with clue related to energy conservation was given to the students. The students were asked to identify the correct word based on the question given.

Benefits of method:

This method provides awareness of energy conservation which is a key to the subject Energy auditing and Demand-side management.
