Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs)

MOOCs initiative at MBA Department, BNMIT:

Due to dynamics in business environment there is always a need for changing and upgrading contents in MBA Programs. The only way for Universities and affiliated colleges to keep pace with the changes is to augment value added programs.  Keeping this in mind, we have taken initiatives to leverage with MOOCs by providing students with an opportunity to enrol into various certification programs offered by universities and instructors of global repute to enhance their knowledge and competitiveness along with an international learning experience. The faculty coordinators ensure that these MOOCs are carefully mapped with the courses being offered in the MBA Program of our affiliating university – Visveswaraya Technological University.

This initiative was introduced in BNMIT during the academic year 2014-15 and it has successfully penetrated into student community since then. The initiative provides value addition to students in terms of new and additional learning opportunities at their convenience, wide exposure to knowledge, edge over their peers in other institutions reflected in enhanced employability and networking opportunities with international learning community.

BNMIT-IIMBX:

BNM Institute of Technology has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIMBX to offer MOOCs for BNMIT students. Taking forward the MoU with IIMBx, 3rd semester MBA students were offered MOOCs on Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Introduction to Investments (IM).

CRM MOOC was a 6 week course including engaging online lecture videos, case studies, interviews, write-ups, non-graded and graded assignments, interactive webinars and live interaction with the Course instructor and former Dean-IIMB, Prof. Shainesh G. Prof. Shainesh G. visited BNMIT campus for an interactive session with the students. It was a humbling and a great learning experience for the students. The enrolled students will be taking up course-end proctored exam online.

MOOC on IM was of 5 weeks’ duration, delivered by Prof. Badrinath. The course delivery was primarily through online video lectures with substantial support material and interesting inputs in the form of application of the theoretical concepts and real time examples drawn from markets across the globe. As part of the course delivery, students enrolled in IM course visited IIMB for an interactive session with Prof. Badrinath and were enthralled by the energy, enthusiasm and abundant knowledge shared by him.

The MOOCs gave an opportunity for our students to learn from professors of eminence from higher learning institutions and a notch up learning in the specific areas.
