Department of Mathematics

To mould the students to acquire  skills required for strengthening Mathematics the back bone of Engineering  education.

  • Provide platform to acquire abilities to evaluate problems using analytical/numerical/graphical techniques.
  • Provide a back ground for relating mathematical techniques to solve real life problems.
  • To involve faculty in research which enriches teaching-learning process.

About the Department:

The Department is well equipped with  full fledged, experienced and highly academically oriented faculty. As a result of its continuous, sincere and result oriented efforts as a team, the Department has been witnessing excellent results consistently and every year a good number of students are scoring cent percent marks in Mathematics. The Department has full fledged Research Centre, recognized by Visvesvaraya Technology University, Belgaum. The Department is actively engaged in research activities in the areas of Fluid Mechanics and Graph theory . Besides, it conducted  four International Conferences succesfully.

  • L. Venkata Reddy , N. P. Chandrashekara and Sreelakshmi D. have been awarded Ph.D. degree from the Research Centre  under the guidance of Dr. S. Manjunath, BNMIT, Bengaluru.

About the Head of the Department:

Dr.S.Manjunath, HOD-BNMIT was honoured with a doctoral degree by Bangalore University, Bangalore in 2000. He has a very rich experience of almost thirty years in the field of teaching and research. Six research scholars, one in Computer Science, one in Mechanical Engineering and four in Mathematics had completed Ph.D under his guidance. Presently, he is guiding six students of Mathematics, doing doctorate from VTU.

His main area of interest is Applied Mathematics and in particular Fluid Mechanics.  Presently, he is associated with Prof. P. Sibanda, University of Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa, Prof. Andrew T. Chan, University of Nottingham, Malaysia and Prof. Pradeep G. Siddheshwar, Bangalore University, Bangalore in investigating two – and three – dimensional passive solute dispersion in non-linear flows through porous media. The highlight of this work is that it covers Lighthill-, pre-Taylor-and Taylor regimes of dispersion in both Darcy and non-Darcy flows. Apart from his research work, he has delivered invited talks in the field of Fluid Mechanics in many National and International conferences held in India and abroad.

He has been blessed by receiving two great honors viz ‘Recognition of Excellence Award’ in 1997 and 2001 by RSST, Bangalore and ‘Excellence in Education’ Award in 1997, Bangalore in the field of Research in Mathematics.

He had presented Research Papers in International Conferences at the National University of Singapore in 1997, Indonesia in 1997, and Western Australia in 2004. He is also a life time member of Indian Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, Operational Research Society of India, Indian Society for Technical Education, The Ramanujam  Mathematical Society, The Indian Mathematical Society and the Academy of Discrete Mathematics and Application.

During February 16-25, 2011, he had been invited by the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Nottingham-Malaysia to deliver a talk on Hydro Dynamics Dispersion Problems and conduct a scientific research. His intellectual Caliber is so high that he has published 42 research papers in National and International Journals and Conferences. He has presented 16 research papers in National and International Journals, Conferences and Symposia. Besides, he has delivered 23 invited talks in National and International Conferences. Thus, he has brought laurels to the teaching fraternity.

Furthermore, he is shouldering myriad responsibilities such as: an Associate Secretary of Cultural Program, Extra Curricular Activities, NSS Program Officer, Chief Editor of the College Magazine and Lion’s Club Quarterly Bulletin and Vice President of ISTM. He is an Executive Council Member of ISTM (2012-13), Advisory Member of various National and International Conferences, Chairman of Organizing Committee of International Conference, Organizing Secretary of ISTM-2007. He has also chaired several technical sessions in the conferences. Besides, he is actively involved in TV-9 Panel Discussion, Radio Panel Discussion and Career Talks etc.
