B.N.M. Institute of Technology hosted a two day International Conference on Thermo-fluids and Energy Systems on 27 th and 28 th December 2019. The conference was inaugurated by Padmashri A. S. Kiran Kumar, Former Secretary, Department of Space, Chairman, ISRO. The inaugural function was presided by Dr. C. Naganna, Chairman, Governing Council, BNMIT. In his enthralling inaugural address, Shri. A S Kiran Kumar, recounted the humble beginnings of Indian space program under the visionary leadership of Padma Vibhushan Vikram Sarabhai, the father of Indian space program. He highlighted the evolution of India’space program, the challenges that were faced during the nascent stages and the success stories of PSLV, GSLV, Chandrayaan and Mangalyaan. He drew attention to the ambitious Ganganyaan project, urging the young minds to actively engage and contribute to the scientific progress of the country.
Emphasizing that the role of technology is to enrich the quality of life, he narrated the transformation brought about by ISROs navigation satellite OCEANSAT in the livelihood of fishermen from Thumba, Kerala. He concluded his inspiring address by underscoring the importance of sustainable development for India’s progress. Prof. T. J. Rama Murthy, Director, BNMIT, delivered the welcome address. Dr. Krishna Murthy G. N., Principal, BNMIT and Dr. Mukesh Patil, Conference Chair & HoD, Mechanical Engineering, BNMIT took part in the proceedings.
The conference saw a confluence of distinguished researchers from Purdue University, USA; Swansea University, UK; Sorbonne University, France and Pusan National University, South Korea. The conference themes included the broad topics under renewable energy, alternate energy, heat transfer, IC Engines, combustion, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, refrigeration & air conditioning, cryogenic heat transfer and porous media. A congenial mix of enthusiastic delegates from states as far as Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Assam and also neighboring states of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Karnataka representing premier institutions and organizations such as IISc, IITs, NITs, VIT, Mexico University, Institute for Plasma Research, CPRI, Bosch, Avasarala Technologies and Indian Navy participated in the conference deliberations.
