Engineering Graduates will be able to:

Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

About the Course:

Electrical & Electronics Engineering is a professional Engineering discipline that generally deals with the study and application of ElectricityElectronicsand Electromagnetism. This field first became an identifiable occupation in the latter half of the 19th century after commercialization of the Electric Telegraph, the telephone, and Electric Power Distribution. Subsequently, broadcasting and recording media made electronics, part of daily life. The invention of the transistor and later the integrated circuit, brought down the cost of electronics to the point that can be used in almost all household applications.

Electrical & Electronics Engineering  is broadly subdivided into a wide range of  fields including ElectronicsDigital ComputersComputer EngineeringPower EngineeringTelecommunicationsControl SystemsRadio-Frequency EngineeringSignal ProcessingInstrumentation and Microelectronics. Many of these disciplines combine with other engineering branches, leads to several  specialized area such as

  5. Electrical Materials Science, etc.

About the Department:

The department has highly qualified, committed & dedicated faculty members many of whom have secured University ranks in their post graduate degree from Institutions of International fame. The department possess, Six PhD holders. They regularly participate in International Conferences, National Conferences and Workshops to upgrade themselves. The faculty members of the department hold various positions in University body such as Board of Examiners, BOS Member, Paper setters, Examiners of UG/PG and PhD Programs.

The department has well equipped laboratories along with a Research & Development centre. The department has various Professional Society Memberships and an in-house association to provide platform for developments in the field of Electrical & Electronics Engineering. The department has individual classroom for UG /PG Students with excellent ICT Facilities.

The faculty is motivated to incorporate new and effective ways of teaching courses that makes the students’ learning process easier and enjoyable.  Undergraduate students work closely with faculty and with one another as a team. Our undergraduates create and take part in various technical programs and author research papers. They are provided with many opportunities to exercise their interests in extra curriculum activities. The entire campus is WiFi connected to serve academic and research work. The Department regularly conducts various workshops, seminars and conferences under the banner of Association of BNMIT Electrical and Electronics Engineering (ABEEE). Special coaching classes are conducted for the benefit of weak students. Remedial classes are also conducted for slow learners. Skill development program is initiated for pre-final year students to make them industry-ready.

Scope of the program:

The Electrical and Electronics Engineering is one of the earliest to start among the core branches of engineering. The structure of the program has undergone a face-lift with the introduction of subjects from Computer Science and Electronics Engineering streams. The program in its curriculum also has Mathematics, Electronics, Computing Techniques and Physics to solve real world problems. Students of Electrical and Electronics Engineering have the flexibility to broaden their horizons in Electronics or Software related industries apart from the core area. Thus, B.E in Electrical and Electronics Engineering stream provide several options to upgrade the technical knowledge, develop leadership qualities, team spirit and concern for environment in students.

About Head of the Department:


Dr. R.V.Parimala is currently Head of the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering , BNMIT. She has obtained her bachelors from Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, Mysore University, M.E (Power Systems) from National Institute of Engineering, Mysore University & Ph.D (Distribution Automation) from VTU, Belagavi. She has 29 years of teaching experience with 17 publications in reputed International Journals & Conferences Her area of expertise includes Power System, Control System, Artificial Intelligence/Soft Computing, Electrical Machines, Power Quality etc . Presently, she is guiding two Ph.D students.


  • She has won the Best research paper award for the technical paper “Optimal switching operation using knowledge based colored Petri net”, presented in International Conference held at IET Chennai.
  • She has worked as a Principal Investigator and has successfully completed the funded project from CPRI under RSOP in 2010 involving INR 9.5 lakhs .

Research Activities:

R & D Center – The department has an R & D center recognized by VTU. It is empowered by 2 research guides with rich industrial and academic experience.

Some of the areas where research has been carried out by the faculties are Power Quality, Power Electronics, EMI, Signal Processing, VLSI & Embedded system, Power System & High voltage. Several years of research has resulted in a large number of publications in National & International Journals & Conferences.

Innovative Teaching/Learning Initiation

Innovative teaching is a proactive approach to integrate new teaching strategies and methods into a classroom. It can also be regarded as the process to change teaching or learning activities that produce improvements in the learning outcomes. The teaching methodology needs to be more student-centric. A primary motive of innovative teaching is to encourage students to engage actively in the learning process. When students interact with teachers and peers, they gain experience that is more practical and retain more information from a class.

The innovative teaching methods followed in our department are

  • Cross word puzzle/Unscramble the words
  • Teaching by using  models
  • Brain storming

Cross word puzzle/ Unscramble the words

 Conducting technical games, makes the learning and teaching process more informative and enjoyable. One such technique is to use crossword puzzles or unscramble words that are tailored to particular concept of interest. It can be used for teaching a specific subject as it can be adapted in limitless ways.

Students must be able to know and understand the terminology of a particular subject in order to solve a related crossword puzzle. In the process of completing a puzzle, students can develop logical thinking and evaluate the choices.

Teaching by using Models

One of the biggest problems engineering students are facing is visualisation. In order to help students to develop this skill and make teaching and learning more productive and interesting, innovative teaching strategy based on using models has been developed.

Teaching a subject using the models has the following benefits for the students

  1. Students are able to learn the topic in an effective and easy way.
  2. Students are completely engaged in the learning process.
  3. Students can gain the knowledge and obtain the skills developed in this “hands on”   approach in learning that affects students’ ability to absorb knowledge in subsequent courses where good visualisation skills are required.

Brain storming

Brainstorming session is a useful technique to generate ideas or find the solutions to a technical problem. These sessions explore and enhance a student’s ability to think critically and laterally. As students get actively involved, the sessions aid the process of learning and improve academic performance. It gives the class a chance to tap into their previous knowledge and form connections to the current topic .It also encourages them to listen and consider others  ideas, thereby showing respect to their fellow classmates.
