The use of electricity is fundamental to modern life and so without a secure supply, society in its current form would collapse. Consequently, the importance of efficient and sustainable generation, secure distribution, and intelligent user devices cannot be overstated. This will be a lifetime challenge, facing the next generation as traditional sources of energy will run out and new ways of generating, distributing and using electricity must be sought. Electrical and Electronic Engineers have a vital role in addressing this challenge.
Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE) is an established undergraduate course at the B.N.M Institute of Technology (BNMIT), with a history of more than 14 years. More than one thousand students have passed through this course and many of them have successfully emerged as captains in their respective fields.
Our course provides equal importance to theory and hands-on sessions. The classes are handled by highly hailed academicians. During the laboratory sessions, the students are aided with skilled technicians. Specialized subjects include but not limited to Power System Analysis, Power Electronics, Electrical Machines and Drives, Analog and Digital Electronics, High Voltage Engineering, etc. While the focus is on the hardware design, the students will also learn the foundations of program and complete the set of technical skills required in today’s industrial standard.
Ever since its inception in the year 2002, the Electrical and Electronics Department of BNMIT has got a respectable name, both in the state and the region. The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering offers an undergraduate program in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Postgraduate Course in Computer Applications in Industrial Drives.
The faculties of Electrical and Electronics Engineering are highly acclaimed individuals with the skill set, covering wide areas of industrial and applied research. They ensure that the courses foster deep learning and increased engagement amongst the students. Such commitment from our fraternity, not only gives our graduates an edge in deciding the right career path but also guarantees that by the time they graduate with a degree, they will have vast hands-on, real-world experience in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
The students are highly motivated by the project funding, provided by the New Gen IEDC from the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. Industrial Personals are frequently invited by the Department to train the students with the latest skillset. The Department of EEE has been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) which is an additional feather on its crown.
Dr. R.V.Parimala is currently Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, BNMIT. She has obtained her bachelors from Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, Mysore University, M.E (Power Systems) from National Institute of Engineering, Mysore University & Ph.D. (Distribution Automation) from VTU, Belagavi. She has 29 years of teaching experience with 17 publications in reputed International Journals & Conferences Her area of expertise includes Power System, Control System, Artificial Intelligence/Soft Computing, Electrical Machines, Power Quality, etc. Presently, she is guiding two Ph.D. students.
She has won the Best research paper award for the technical paper “Optimal switching operation using knowledge-based colored Petri net”, presented in International Conference held at IET Chennai.She has worked as a Principal Investigator and has successfully completed the funded project from CPRI under RSOP in 2010 involving INR 9.5 lakhs.
R & D center – The Research scholars and faculty members are utilizing EEE Research and Development center and actively involved in research activities and have received grants from different organizations. The students and staff are encouraged to participate in research work. Some of the areas where research has been carried out by the faculties are Power Quality, Power Electronics, EMI, Signal Processing, Power System & High Voltage Engineering. Several years of research has resulted in a large number of publications in National & International Journals & Conferences.

The department of EEE signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Manubhu Technology Pvt Ltd, Bangalore on 18th November 2019. This MoU allows the partners to undertake consultancy work, research activities and provide internship opportunities to the students of B.N.M. Institute of Technology, Bangalore.
Exceptionally good results are obtained with most of the batches achieving 100% success, and many of them securing First Class with Distinction. Our Students have secured total 9 ranks in university exams.

Innovative teaching is a proactive approach to integrate new teaching strategies and methods into a classroom. It is regarded as the process to change teaching or learning activities that produce improvements in the learning outcomes. The teaching methodology is more student-centric. A primary motive of innovative teaching is to encourage students to engage actively in the learning process. When students interact with teachers and peers, they gain experience that is more practical and retain more information from a class.
The Department of EEE follows Innovative teaching methods that involve using creative methods and teaching-learning materials to ensure that each student is fully engaged in learning and is interactive in classrooms.

The Department of Elelctrical & Electronics Engineering publishes a biannual newsletter “Minchu”. The newsletter provides a platform for the students to showcase their technical and communication skills. The newsletter is designed by students and includes articles written by them. It also publishes student and faculty achievements, sports events, cultural events, paper presentations, workshops, and conference details.
