About the Course:

Electrical & Electronics Engineering is a professional Engineering discipline that generally deals with the study and application of Electricity, Electronics, and Electromagnetism. This field first became an identifiable occupation in the latter half of the 19th century after commercialization of the Electric Telegraph, the telephone, and Electric Power Distribution. Subsequently, broadcasting and recording media made electronics, part of daily life. The invention of the transistor and later the integrated circuit brought down the cost of electronics to the point that can be used in almost all household applications.

Electrical & Electronics Engineering is broadly subdivided into a wide range of fields including Electronics, Digital Computers, Computer Engineering, Power Engineering, Telecommunications, Control Systems, Radio-Frequency Engineering, Signal Processing, Instrumentation, and Microelectronics. Many of these disciplines combine with other engineering branches, leads to several  specialized areas such as

  1. Hardware Engineering
  2.  Power Electronics
  3.  Electromagnetism & Waves
  4. Renewable Energies &
  5. Electrical Materials Science, etc.

About the Department:


Department of Electrical and Electronics engineering at BNMIT started in the year 2002 with an intake of  60.

Department offers the undergraduate program and postgraduate program in Electrical and Electronics engineering. Well equipped Research & Development(R&D)  center affiliated to VTU has been set to cater to the needs of the research scholars to conduct cutting edge research towards the doctoral degree.

The department has highly qualified, committed & dedicated faculty members many of whom have secured University ranks in their post-graduate degree from Institutions of International fame. The department possesses, Five Ph.D. holders. The faculty members of the department hold various positions in University body such as Board of Examiners, BOS Member, Paper setters, Examiners of UG/PG and Ph.D. Programs. 

The department has well-equipped laboratories along with a Research & Development center. The department has various Professional Society Memberships and an in-house association to provide a platform for developments in the field of Electrical & Electronics Engineering. The department has an individual classroom for UG /PG Students with excellent ICT Facilities.

The faculty is motivated to incorporate new and effective ways of teaching courses that make the students’ learning process easier and enjoyable.  Undergraduate students work closely with faculty and with one another as a team. Our undergraduates create and take part in various technical programs and author research papers. They are provided with many opportunities to exercise their interests in extra curriculum activities. The entire campus is WiFi connected to serve academic and research work. The Department regularly conducts various workshops, seminars, and conferences under the banner of Association of BNMIT Electrical and Electronics Engineering (ABEEE). Special coaching classes are conducted for the benefit of weak students. Remedial classes are also conducted for slow learners. The skill development program is initiated for pre-final year students to make them industry-ready.

Department has student chapters of Institute of Engineers (IE), Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) to connect students to outside for exposure.

MINCHU a Biannual newsletter of the department portrays the growth of the department achievements of the students and faculty and students voice to technology.

About the Head of the Department:

Dr. R.V.Parimala is currently Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, BNMIT. She has obtained her bachelors from Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, Mysore University, M.E (Power Systems) from National Institute of Engineering, Mysore University & Ph.D. (Distribution Automation) from VTU, Belagavi. She has 29 years of teaching experience with 17 publications in reputed International Journals & Conferences Her area of expertise includes Power System, Control System, Artificial Intelligence/Soft Computing, Electrical Machines, Power Quality, etc. Presently, she is guiding two Ph.D. students.

She has won the Best research paper award for the technical paper “Optimal switching operation using knowledge-based colored Petri net”, presented in International Conference held at IET Chennai.She has worked as a Principal Investigator and has successfully completed the funded project from CPRI under RSOP in 2010 involving INR 9.5 lakhs.

Research Activities:

R & D center – The Research scholars and faculty members are utilizing EEE Research and Development center and actively involved in research activities and have received grants from different organizations. The students and staff are encouraged to participate in research work. Some of the areas where research has been carried out by the faculties are Power Quality, Power Electronics, EMI, Signal Processing,  Power System & High Voltage. 6. Smt. Shubha Rao K, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering chaired the session for IEEE 2nd International Conference on Power and Energy Applications (ICPEA 2019) held during 27-30, April 2019 in Singapore.
7. Smt. Priyashree S, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering has successfully defended her Ph.D. research work under Visvesvaraya Technological University titled “The Mathematical Modeling and Power Quality Improvement for Industrial Furnaces” on 13th April, 2019.
8. Dr Venkatesha K, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering has been awarded Ph.D. degree for his research work under Visvesvaraya Technological University titled “Modeling and Design of Single Phase and Three Phase Bi-directional AC/AC Converter for Power Quality Improvement Using FPGA Real Time Controller” in the 18th VTU Annual convocation held on 18th March 2019.
9. Dr S Sudalai Shunmugam, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering has been awarded Ph.D. degree for his research work carried out at Central Power Research Institute, Bangalore titled “Assessment of Pollution Level and Design of External Insulation for High Voltage Transmission System” in the 18th VTU Annual convocation held on 18th March 2019.
10. Dr S Sudalai Shunmugam, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering delivered a technical talk on “Importance of Transmission and Distribution” organized by the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Global Academy of Technology, Bangalore on 25th February 2019.
11. Venkatesha K has received the Best paper award for the technical paper “Experimental analysis of Symmetrical & Asymmetrical PWM based Single Phase AC to AC Converter for Power Quality Improvement” in International conference on smart grids, power and advanced control engineering [ICSPACE-2017] at Global Academy of Technology, Bengaluru during August-2017
12. Venkatesha K, Associate Professor, Department of EEE, received the Best Faculty Award -2016-17 given by M/s Cognizant Technology Solutions, Bengaluru.

Regular Lectures & Technical Seminars are arranged under the aegis of Association of BNMIT Electrical and Electronics Engineering (ABEEE) forum. Innovative Initiations :

Innovative teaching is a proactive approach to integrate new teaching strategies and methods into a classroom. It is regarded as the process to change teaching or learning activities that produce improvements in the learning outcomes. The teaching methodology is more student-centric. A primary motive of innovative teaching is to encourage students to engage actively in the learning process. When students interact with teachers and peers, they gain experience that is more practical and retain more information from a class.

The Department of EEE follows Innovative teaching methods that involve using creative methods and teaching-learning materials to ensure that each student is fully engaged in learning and is interactive in classrooms.

The Department of Elelctrical & Electronics Engineering publishes a biannual newsletter “Minchu”. The newsletter provides a platform for the students to showcase their technical and communication skills. The newsletter is designed by students and includes articles written by them.
