The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, established in the year 2001, has a present intake of 120 students and staff student ratio of 1:16. It has well experienced and dedicated faculty with qualifications obtained from premier research institute like the Indian Institute of Science. The average experience of the faculty members is 16 years. Many of them possess a rich industrial experience from organizations like ITI, Mindtree, ISRO and Infosys. The aculty members execute integrated efforts to groom students in a good academic and research ambiance. Measures are also taken to develop students with abilities for life-long learning
The propitious environment of the Institution has enabled most of its students to pass with distinction and to maintain high pass percentage. The placements have been excellent with several reputed companies like National Instruments, Mentor Graphics, TCS, Accenture etc, visiting us for campus recruitments. The outstanding performances have enabled a large number of students to acquire admissions in M.S degree programs in reputed international universities as well.
Workshops, Seminars and Invited Talks for students and staff are regularly organized in the department for continuous learning and updation of knowledge. Skill development programmes and industrial visits are organized for students. To make the learning process interesting, innovative teaching methods have been adopted by the faculty. For overall development of the students, the department conducts soft skills and personality development classes. Academic performances of the students are excellent with thirteen university ranks since the inception. The students engage themselves in innovative projects in the lab, internship training in industries and academic projects in reputed organizations. The students regularly participate in Technical, Cultural and Sports events at intra-college and inter-college level and they have regularly bought laurels to the department.
About the Course:
In modern society, scope of Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) is very vast that is applied in every field. The Electronics & Communication Engineering Program provides students with a solid scientific/technical background and research capabilities in the design, development and manufacture of electronic devices and systems used in a wide spectrum of applications. From household appliances to sophisticated satellite communication, from electronic ignition to neural networks and signal processing chips,the program integrates academic discipline with project-based engineering applications, classroom learning theory with real world experiences. The program is structured in a way to provide better opportunities in industry and increase confidence and opportunities of employment prospects. The core advantage of this field is to involve in designing and developing complex electronic devices and systems.
Dr. P A Vijaya obtained BE degree from MCE Hassan, ME & Ph.D from IISc Bengaluru. She has 33 years of teaching experience with 112 publications in reputed International Journals & Conferences. Three research scholars have obtained Ph.D degree & one industry expert has obtained M.Sc Engg degree from VTU under her guidance. She is currently guiding 6 research scholars in the area of Pattern Recognition, Image Processing & Real Time Embedded Systems. She is a member of IEEE, ISTE & IACSIT. She has worked as BOE chairman, BOS & LIC member in VTU. She joined as Professor in the Department of ECE, BNMIT on 1.2.2013 and is heading the department since 23.1.2016. She has given more than 20 technical talks in conferences, workshops and FDPs and has chaired the technical sessions in more than 20 international conferences. She is a reviewer for reputed international journals
The department has an R & D center recognized by VTU. It is empowered by 5 research guides with rich industrial and academic experience.
The thrust areas majority include Conductive Polymers, MEMS, VLSI Optical Fiber Communication, Image processing, Pattern recognition, Real-Time applications, Wireless Sensor Networks & Advanced Instrumentation. Several years of research has resulted in a large number of publications in National & International Journals & Conferences.

Industries / IT companies today recruit graduates based on skills acquired by them during the years of gradation. We have seen in the past that just scoring 70% and above marks does not guarantee job for students. Apart from looking for soft skills, industries want individuals who are ready to take up work immediately after joining their companies. Further, graduates with higher and better skills, adjust / adopt to dynamic environment, and more effectively to the challenges & opportunities at work. Hence, there is a need to produce skilled and industry ready individuals in the domains of current interest. In order to address this issue, the institute has introduced Skill Development Programme (SDP) for 3rd year B.E. students. The expected outcome of the programme is to mould students to be industry ready technocrats of tomorrow.
