To be a premier department of learning in Information Science and Engineering in the state of Karnataka, moulding students into professional Engineers.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)

After 2/3 years of graduation, the graduates will have the ability to:

1. Analyse, design and implement solutions in the field of Information Science and Engineering and adapt to changes in technology by self-learning.

2. Work effectively as an individual and in a team, exhibiting leadership qualities to meet the goals of the organization.

3. Keep abreast with the technology and pursue higher education.

Program Outcomes (PO’s)

Engineering Graduates will be able to:

1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

6. The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

7. Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

8. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.

Program specific Outcomes (PSO’s)

ISE graduates will be able to:

1. Analyze, design, develop and test software solutions using structured and object oriented approach.

2. Design, develop and optimize solutions for information systems employing fundamentals of system hardware & software, graph theory, finite automata, data storage and communication networks.

About the Course:

Information Science / Technology is the buzzword today in all walks of life be it space or down to agriculture. These days we need connectivity of data across the globe and we need it at the click of the mouse. That is the challenge Information Technology has to meet. We need more sophistication in the way we can handle data and obtain information. Some critical application include:

  • Office automation & accounting
  • Expert systems for diagnostics
  • Monitoring for Live projects
  • Online exams, results & Decision support systems

Information Science professionals are among the fastest growing and highest paying jobs in the economy. The course attracts people with interest in developing the skills like Analytical, Mathematical, Managerial, Communication, Creative Problem solving and the technical competency. Core Areas of study includes; Operating systems, Systems Software, Application software, Networking, Programming languages, Design and analysis of algorithms, decision support systems, Database Management, File Structures, ERP and MIS.

About the Department:

Department of Information science and Engineering was established in the year 2001 with an intake of 60. The department has qualified and dedicated faculty members to provide quality education to students. The department is accredited by NBA in 2017 for a period of 3 years from the academic year 2017-18 to 2020-21. The department has state of art infrastructure to support research and mould students into professionals. Students are moulded with multi dimensional skill sets for their holistic growth. The department regularly organizes skill development programs, workshops, technical talks and industry visits to keep the students abreast with technology.

About Head of the Department:

Dr. Girisha G S, the head of the department has teaching and research experience of over 19.5 years in the field of computer science and engineering. He has obtained his B.E from Kuvempu University, M.Tech from VTU, and Ph.D from VTU. He has about 17 publications in national and international journals and conferences.

Research activities:

R & D center – The Research scholars and faculty members are utilizing CS & E Research and Development centre and actively involved in research activities and have received various grants from different organizations. Staff Achievements & Awards:

The staff of our department has also many awards and achievements to their credit in adminstration, academics, sports and fine arts.

1. Dr. Girisha G S and Dr. Surabhi Narayan have obtained Ph.D.during the academic year 2017-18 and 2016-17 respectively.

2. Dr. Saritha Chakrasali was instrumental in coordinating faculty development workshops and seminars. She has completed Continuing Education Course on Cryptography and Network Security with Overall performance grade of S (outstanding) and Intelligent Agents with Overall performance grade of A at IISc, Bangalore. She has topped the Bangalore University in Bachelor of Technology and received the Certificate of Commendation for her final year project from Karnataka State Council for Science & Technology, IISc. She has also received the Merit Certificate in recognition of the high position secured in the list of meritorious candidates qualifying for awards from Govt. of Karnataka, National Scholarship Scheme.

3. Mrs. Madhura Prakash has secured First rank in MTech (SE)

4. Ms. Harini has secured Second rank in M.Tech (CSE)

5. Dr. Saritha Chakrasali and Dr. Girisha G S have received Appreciation Letters for their performance in Faculty Appraisal.

6. Dr. Surabhi Narayan was the Co-investigator for the funded project titled “Code Generation for Document images based on Handwritten Components” under VTU Research Grant Scheme for the period 2011-14. The grant amount was Rs. 9.92 Lakhs

The ISE department fraternity not only insists and encourages the students to perform well in academics but also in other technical, sports and cultural events. The students of ISE have been instrumental in performing well beyond academics and thus bringing in laurels to the department and in turn to the college

The use of innovative methods in educational institutions has the potential to improve education and also to empower people, strengthen governance and galvanize the effort to achieve the human development goal for the country.

The Department of ISE follows Innovative teaching methods that involve using creative methods and teaching-learning materials for the benefit of students. A variety of modern tools are used to ensure that each student is fully engaged in learning and is interactive in classrooms.

Department News letter:

The department of Information Science & Engineering publishes a biannual newsletter “Inspire”. The newsletter provides a platform for the students to showcase their technical and communication skills. The newsletter is designed by students and includes articles written by them. It also publishes student and faculty achievements, sport events, cultural events, paper presentations, workshops and conference details.
