Research Overview

The faculty of the Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning group conducts research in many areas of artificial intelligence and its related domains. The group conducts research on the development and analysis of algorithms that learn and perform intelligent behavior with minimal human intervention, natural language understanding/processing, computer vision, machine learning, data science, and so forth.

1  Current Research

The main thrust areas of research of our AIML faculty is related to the broad domains including:

  • Algorithms,
  • Artificial Intelligence,
  • Data Mining,
  • Machine Learning,
  • Deep Learning,
  • Sentiment Analysis,
  • Data science,
  • Image and Video Analysis,
  • Internet of Things, and
  • Web Mining

Most of our faculty is working on frontiers of Artificial Intelligence research with Big Data and Machine Learning, i.e., datasets humans can only mine by training machines and making them perform human-like tasks. The research work on this area can be observed in all our recent published works.

2      Future Research Plans

Our primary research interests will remain focused on the areas mentioned above. Other research interests are planned to work on the research problems to develop AI solutions that can provide competitive advantage by augmenting human intelligence with the help of Big data, Graphical Processing Units (GPUs), and Deep Learning. For example, Deep learning models to work with small datasets and the use of more unsupervised learning (the system should simply interact with the world) for new AI innovation. In addition, we are planning to work with efficient algorithms to work with GPU systems. These techniques seem to be interesting in the near future though it is not easy to think of AI systems that can mimic human thought patterns like reasoning and perception.
