RESEARCH CENTER DETAILS

The Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) Department at BNM Institute of Technology (BNMIT) houses a Research and Development center recognized by Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), offering Ph.D. and M.Sc. (Engg) by research programs. The center is supported by 14 research guides with extensive industrial and academic experience, currently mentoring 08 research scholars pursuing their Ph.D. degrees. The research focuses on areas such as Sensors, Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS), VLSI Design, Image Processing, Pattern Recognition, Real-Time Embedded Applications, Wireless Sensor Networks, and Biomedical Applications. ​

The center boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including experimental setups for sensor research, the full suite of MATLAB tools, network simulators, Cadence VLSI design tools, advanced FPGA boards, antenna design hardware and software tools, and fiber optic communication setups. These resources have facilitated a significant number of publications in national and international journals and conferences, as well as patent filings. Additionally, the department has established Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with various companies to enhance research and development activities.

Research Facilities available in the R&D center.

The BNMIT ECE R&D center is equipped with advanced laboratories and state-of-the-art instrumentation designed to support a wide range of research activities. Researchers have access to specialized facilities including sensor research labs, VLSI design suites, image processing stations, and wireless communication labs. The center features high-end software tools such as MATLAB, network simulators, and Cadence design tools, along with hardware platforms like advanced FPGA boards and antenna design equipment. These resources are instrumental in enabling rigorous experimentation in areas like microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), biomedical applications, and real-time embedded systems.

In addition to hardware-focused labs, the center also provides dedicated computational and simulation facilities that facilitate complex data analysis and system modeling. Researchers benefit from comprehensive fiber optic communication setups and prototyping equipment, which foster a collaborative and innovative research environment. The integration of these diverse research facilities not only accelerates the development of cutting-edge solutions but also encourages multidisciplinary collaboration, further solidifying the center’s reputation as a hub for advanced research and technological innovation.
