The Departments of Electrical and Electronics Offers Ph.D. Programme as Full-Time as well as Part-Time. The Department has an R & D centre recognized by VTU. Since its inception, the centre has a good number of research scholars and guides conducting research activities. Research scholars are encouraged to do quality research works suggested by guides.It is empowered by guides with rich industrial & academic experience.The thrust areas of research majorlyfocusses on power systems, power quality, power electronics, high voltage engineering and digital control for low power applications

Center of Excellence in High Voltage Testing :
Research Activities and Innovations:
- Under Industry Institute Collaboration, Manobhu Technology Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore provided Silicone Rubber Samples for the testing purpose to be carried out in the HV laboratory of the EEE department during 2020-21.
- Under Industry Institute Collaboration, a research proposal entitled “Effects of Corona Discharge and the Influence of Corona Ring on Polymer Insulators: An Experimental and Computational Investigation” was submitted to Vision Group of Science and Technology (Application No: VRN/002820/21-22), under CESEM scheme on 24h February 2022.
- Under Industry Institute Collaboration, a research proposal entitled “Evaluation of Insulator Surface Erosion under DC Inclined Plane Tracking and Erosion Test” was submitted to Vision Group of Science and Technology (Application No: VRN/002820/21-22), under RGS-F scheme on 28h February 2022.
- Received RTV coated product (RTV-274-01-0421) samples (5 No.) for testing on 10.07.2023 from Manobhu Technology Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore.
- Under Industry Institute Collaboration, a research proposal entitled “
Investigating the Impact of Contamination and Corona Discharge on Composite Insulators: An Experimental and Computational Analysis” was submitted to Vision Group of Science and Technology (Application No: VRN/004659/23-24), under K-FIST L1 scheme on 21st June 2024.
Center of Excellence in Electric Vehicle Technology :
BNMIT has inaugurated Centre of Excellence in Electric Vehicle Technology [CoE-EVT] on 25/04/2023 in the campus. The main intention of establishing COE-EVT is to conduct global internships, skill development programs, training programs and also to carry out research activities for both students and faculty members in the domain of EVT. The laboratory has equipped with battery pack design using battery management systems. The research team had already designed basic models of two wheelers, three wheelers and four wheelers under NewGen IEDC, DST, Govt. of India research funds. The CoE-EVT has future plans to design green cars by tapping renewable energy sources and also autonomous cars using artificial intelligence and machine learning tools for intelligent operation of the whole system.
EV Lab Activities:
Design and manufacture of Lithium Ion & Lithium Iron Phospahate batteries as per specifications
- Cells used: Lithium Ion (3.7 V, 2600 mAh) Lithium Iron Phosphate (3.2 V, 6000 mAh)
- Specifications: 24 V/36V/60V/72 V battery packs with capacities 10 AH/20AH/40 AH
- Battery management system [BMS] with tempereture sensors for protection [imported]
- Nickel strips and connectors as per need [XT30/XT60/XT90]
- Tapes: High temperature Kapton types for masking and additonal high temperaure insulation tapes.
- Heat shrink sleeves for covering the whole battery pack
