
The Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), B.N.M. Institute of Technology, organized a Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) and IP Management for Startups on 15th July 2025 to create awareness about the importance of protecting intellectual property and its role in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. The workshop aimed to encourage students to understand the value of patents, trademarks, copyrights, and design registrations in transforming innovative ideas into successful ventures.
During the workshop, participants gained insights into the significance of timely filing and registration of intellectual property rights and learned how IP assets enhance the overall value of startups, particularly during mergers, acquisitions, and fundraising activities. The session also emphasized the role of technology transfer in promoting innovation and commercialization of ideas, helping students understand the legal and strategic aspects of intellectual property management.
The workshop witnessed the participation of 60 students, 2 faculty members, and 10 external participants, providing an interactive platform for discussions on innovation, entrepreneurship, and startup ecosystems. The sessions enabled participants to appreciate the importance of safeguarding intellectual assets and leveraging them for sustainable business growth.
Overall, the workshop was an informative and enriching experience that strengthened participants’ understanding of Intellectual Property Rights, technology transfer, and startup-oriented innovation, encouraging them to protect and commercialize their future innovations effectively.
