CENTRE FOR INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS (BNM-CIPR)

Centre for Intellectual Property Rights at BNMIT was inaugurated on 18th July, 2016 in association with VTPC, GOK. &  KSCST.

In BNMIT, research and development work is being conducted at different departments.  To protect the inventions of BNMIT, a “BNM-CIPR” Centre for Intellectual Property Rights (CIPR)” is formed. The BNM-CIPR identifies and protects innovative products or processes by Patents/Trademarks. The other literary activities and software developed by BNMIT are protected by copyrights. In addition, the new designs of products are protected by design registration. The BNM CIPR caters to the need of all Departments under BNMIT. BNM-CIPR also prepares an IPR policy for the BNMIT.

 Mr. Prabhu M, Managing Director, VTPC, Department of Industries & Commerce, Government of Karnataka inaugurated the IP CELL.

BNMIT in collaboration with VTPC conducted various training programmes for faculty members and students to enhance the knowledge of Intellectual property rights at campus.

Workshop on Significance of Patents and Prior Art Search for budding Entrepreneurs- 9th May, 2019

The Entrepreneurship Development Cell at BNMIT in association with Visvesvaraya Trade Promotion Centre, Government of Karnataka, organized one day workshop on “Significance of Patents and Prior Art Search for budding Entrepreneurs”  for the students New Gen IEDC and ED cell members on 9thth May, 2019, sponsored by NSTEDB Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

Prof. Eswar Maanay, Dean Administration during his inaugural address pointed out that students need to come forward for patenting their ideas as an outcome of engineering studies. He welcomed the guests for the workshop and wished the students for a happy learning session.

Dr. L. Vijayashree, Chief Coordinator, ED Cell introduced the guests to the gathering. The Resource Persons for the workshops were Smt. Prabhavathi Rao, Program Coordinator – WTO & IPR Relay Cell, VTPC, Dept of Industries & Commerce, Govt of Karnataka and Smt.Girija V, Founder Ipatenti Systems, And Patent Agent, Bengaluru & Dr.Sarasija Padmanabhan, Prior Art Search Specialist, Bengaluru.

The workshop created an introduction to Patenting by Ms. Prabhavathi and then followed by the importance of Patenting by Ms. Girija. Students who were participants were allowed to raise their doubts in between and were given clarifications by the speaker. After the tea break, Dr. Sarasija had a workshop on pre search and this hands-on training helped the students to search their prototypes availability in the online form. Dr. L. Vijayashree concluded the session by handing over the mementos to the speakers.

Around 40 students and Mentors from various Engineering departments of BNMIT benefited out of this workshop.
